There's no Xbox One version?

General discussion about Timespinner.

There's no Xbox One version?

Postby cthomlan » Sat Oct 17, 2015 9:47 am

I bought an Xbox one recently and decided that since there aren't many interesting AAA games coming out for it in the next year, I'd swap all of my Kickstarter games over from Steam/GOG to XB1 versions. And I could have sworn Timespinner was one of the games that had an XB1 version. I'm clearly mistaken, but now I have to wonder: why isn't there an Xbox version? (I also have to wonder why I didn't buy a PS4, but that is neither here nor there.)

If I remember correctly, we originally planned to release for xbox as or main console. However, microsoft was being really fussy with release timing and other various frustrating rules that we just don't want to bother with. Sorry about that! :(

Obviously Microsoft's rules are still gonna Microsoft, but would the fussy release timing still be an issue with new release window?

It's really been a while and bodie can tell me to stfu if i'm wrong, but i remember part of it being that microsoft required us to release on xbox before anywhere else.

It's called Microsoft's "Launch Parity" clause, which states that games must be shipped on Xbox platforms before, or at the same time, as other platforms. If you google the Parity clause, it appears that after the launch of the Xbone the rules have been "loosened" and are judged by a case by case basis. Keep in mind that this news is well after the Timespinner Kickstarter finished (almost a whole year!), which explains my past decisions.

I'd like to say that while a Timespinner port to Xbone and WiiU are not planned, it doesn't mean that they are completely off the table. I'm only one person after all, and I need to focus on the platforms that I have actually made concrete promises on.

After I release Timespinner on the promised platforms, then I will start thinking about porting to other platforms. That is if I haven't completely burned myself out. So there's still a glimmer of hope for you :)
