Your favorite Metroidvania games

Who wants to talk about great Metroidvania games? Ooh, me! Me!

Aside from the obvious (Metroid, Castlevania), feel free to talk about any Metroidvania games you like.

I'll start it off with one I like.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Super Panda Adventures
I got the game in a bundle at some point, and I found that I had a Steam key for it, yay! So, I downloaded it and initially was just giving it a quick try while the cards were farming (like I usually do with the plethora of subpar games I acquire from bundles). Holy crap did it surprise me. I couldn't put it down. Next thing I knew, I'd put in over 11 hours playing and had gotten 100% of the items and finished the game. For a game that's $3.99 on the Steam shop, I can't recommend it any more highly. Give it a shot.
Guacamelee, definitely. Still need to beat that, but at least I got to the point where I should be going to the last boss so I just need to do that eventually.
Valdis Story: Abyssal City (available on Steam) was a fun game, although I didn't really care for what little story there was. It had a high difficulty at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes really good in terms of fast action. Some of the music was well done, too.
I really liked Valdis Story, though it was a little hard going around places sometimes. Other than the game being hard at some points, either because of annoying enemies or hard-hitting bosses, it's pretty damn fun and has a cool battle system.
I would've beaten it by now if not for the last boss being ridiculously hard, even though I'm maxed out in levels already (really hate it when games have such low limits for level ups).
It's a really fun game, but does it really qualify as a metroidvania game? I thought a metroidvania game was one where you needed to collect items in order to progress through the story. I don't really see this in Freedom Planet, unless I'm missing something.
As far as my favorite metroidvanias go, I'd say Cave Story is pretty high up there, though I can't seem to think of any others I've played at the moment.
Yeah, it appears to be more like Sonic the Hedgehog than anything, but it looks really cool anyway. :P
I really like Shadow Complex on the Xbox 360. Been awhile since I've played it, but really kept me addicted throughout the campaign.
As someone mentioned earlier, Gucamelee is really fun with its interesting mechanics, I also have yet to finish it. Been caught up with so many other games.
I've been trying to wait for that to go on sale. My ex-girlfriend had read the book it was based on and said it was really good so I was going to buy it at some point.
