Read the KnowYourMeme and it still is making mountains out of molehills. It's created a scary atmosphere in the social spaces, like Twitter, where people are afraid to be themselves, lest they get harassed by pro-GG crowd.

Actually it's done the opposite, people are talking more about corruption in the industry, and admonishing for change more than ever.

One thing can be said: It's affecting people both negatively and positively. And it's happening now.

Btw, #notyourshield was made because people did not want to use race, gender, age, etc., narratives for a story. And it's bringing people from diverse lives to talk about the corruption of the industry.

I can't agree that there's any substance to the accusations against the press. Most of the people being targeted are effectively powerless indie devs and/or freelance reporters who write about interesting but relatively small games, to a relatively small audience. If there is corruption in game journalism, it's in the AAA space, not indies. And honestly, "corruption" in game "journalism" is a somewhat specious argument in the first place, since writing about games is rarely investigative or has any call to be. We're not talking about arms sales to rogue states, here, we're talking about whether a person liked a video game. It's nearly all about opinions, reviews, and editorials, none of which exist in any kind of clean-room, objective state.

Finally, the images and links provided above act very oblivious as to the misogyny aspect. They hand-wave and say that the whole thing started with the game jam thing, when in fact, it started with a very insulting and invasive release of one person's intimate information. These hashtags emphatically aren't about "corruption", they're about personal attacks on people who dare to speak their minds in public, and they use misogynistic attacks against those women who do so. The usual response to that is to say something like "what about Phil or Tim, they aren't women." They are people who spoke up on behalf of the scores of women being driven out of the industry by the overwhelming attacks of the GG people.

By declaring that they're worried about corruption in the game industry, GGers are saying they are worried about imbalance in game industry voices. I can't think of a better way to unbalance things than by hounding vast quantities of people out of their jobs and this hobby. It is deeply troubling.

Recall the censorship being committed in almost every global sphere, including 4chan of all places. The people that even talked about #gamergate were censored, banned, even ostracised for just talking about it, even if they are not part of the movements.

When Milo revealed the mailing list, it has gone from just a few people talking about it, to AAA and big business talking about it. It's now affecting the entire industry, as we speak.

"Misogyny" was never the issue, it was corruption. That subject was ended early on, since if it was a man on that very same position, he would have not only been fired, but shamed and ostracised. The IGF awards collusion rose people to investigate further.

The people that are making personal attacks, those are the ones that should not be in #gamergate, since #gamergate is about reporting corruption in the industry.

If you like, take a look at some of the tweets in #gamergate, so you see how diverse the topics range, inclusive of all talks about corruption in the industry.


However, what people are doing, is reporting sites that post information regardless of any agenda, like these folks:

When I look at the Twitter #GamerGate hashtag all I see is people being against SJW, calling for boycotts and firings of people who are against it.

It's super depressing that there's so much negative energy out there
