Your favorite time-travel movie(s)

Postby Nathan » Sun Aug 03, 2014 1:46 pm

My fiancee and I just watched the brilliant '12 Monkeys' again tonight. Still an amazing movie.

And it got me thinking... what time-travel related movies would the guys and girls on the Timespinner forum like? So, what are your favorite movies that are in any way related to time-travel, alternate dimensions, etc?

Here's my list in no particular order:

- Back to the Future I, II and III
- 12 Monkeys
- Donnie Darko
- Groundhog Day
- Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
- Source Code
- The Time Machine (1960)

[UPDATE]
And I almost forgot 'The Butterfly Effect', thanks to Sleyer for pointing it out.

I'm very partial to Terminator.

If it counts as time travel (it's more "time communication"), I also really liked Frequency.

Uuuuh~ I don't know much time travel movies. Totally gonna use that list. (*_*)

I guess mine would be "Back to the Future" I and III. I love the whole trilogy, but the second movie had a mayor flaw(*) by it's own definitions of time travel... already bugged me as a kid and it still does to this day. =(

----
(*) PLOT SPOILER: Biff steals/borrows the time machine in 2015 and goes back in time to change the past (1955). AFTER doing that, he brings the time machine back to 2015 like nothing happened. They only notice it in the year 1985. Marty suggest to go back to 2015 and stop him from stealing the time machine, and the Doc explains they can't do that, because it will be the NEW future. Now that the past was changed, they would end up in a whole new future.

ERROR: But Biff did exactly THAT! He went back to the very same future he came from after changing the past. If not, Marty and Doc would be trapped in 2015 until they build a whole new time machine. D:

Oh, yeah! I totally forgot about that movie. I was pleasantly surprised by it. I'm adding it on my list... have to re-watch that soon.

Never watched it... putting it on my 'to see'-list. Thanks!

Cool! Let us know what you think of the movies.

And yeah, you're right about the plot-holes in BTTF II. As a kid I didn't notice and actually liked Part II the best out of all the movies. Now I like Parts I and III the best, because they're more human. Although Part II has its great moments... especially the last half hour really shines. And you have to admit... it has one heck of a cliffhanger.

Butterfly Effect was... quite new to me when I watched it for the first time.
Back to the Future series is always classic.

However, the first thing came to my mind, though it is not exactly a movie, was Steins;Gate.
I know it's technically anime made from the game of same title, but it has its own movie, which is continuation from anime itself.

I would really recommend it though. It starts up quite slow and boring, but it's worth watching it to the end.

Yeah, dat cliffhanger. And part II gave birth to the legendary hover board! 0.0

When I saw this scene in Part III i was like "AWW. Yiss! Mother. Snuggling. Hover board!" ^(o.o)^

If possible, always rescue by hover board... :3

Srsly, people were more hyped about the hover board than time travel. :>

Only one I've seen is the Back To The Future trilogy. I need to find more time-travel movies. XD
