how to use meyefs fire breath?

Hi guys,

I´m playing with two x-box controllers on PC (GOG.com). Does meyef need to be on a specific level to be able to use the fire breath on key B on the controller? Is there anywhere a table with an overview, when a familiar gets which ability on which level?

Currently Meyef is only using his melee attach on X. Checked the input settings, changed the controllers, Re-set the spell from key B to keys A or Y. But that makes no difference.

Familiars, when controlled by a player, can only use Spells once they hit the enemy enough times to charge it up. The familiar will flash and glow when ready!
