Lapis / Aquamarine Orb:

Melee power: Shoots jets of water from under the surface at a set distance from Lunais, said water jets will launch enemies hit into the air and backwards away from Lunais.

Magic power: Creates a shield of water that protects Lunais from projectiles or reducing damage by 1/4th for the duration.

Aura power: Allows Lunais to walk on the surface of water for 1-2 seconds before falling through, also allows her to jump off of the waters surface.

Just a rough idea, let me know what you think.

This is a fun idea :D Kind of similar to what I was thinking of doing for the Water Orb, although I hadn't thought about doing a knock-back :O

I really like the jumping off water idea- super fun!

My thoughts for this orb was something more along the lines of a utility / defensive type orb as I'm sure there are going to be a TON of offensive options. Also with the knock up / knock back if you are crafty, you can set enemies up for a time stop to be used as platforms.

As I'm a $1000 backer, I've been tossing around ideas for orbs in my head for a while now. I've come up with a few that I liked, like the Butterfly orb:

Melee: Orb transforms into a butterfly and homes in on a nearby enemy in front of you. Longer ranged than most melee attacks, but slow attack rate.
Magic: Summon a bunch of butterflies that home in on nearby enemies.
Passive: You can hold the jump button to slow your falls; butterfly wings appear while doing so.

Or the Prism Orb:

Melee: Attack with a short-ranged cone of light in front of you.
Magic: Shoot the orb out in any direction. Lunais then shoots a beam of light towards it. Once it hits, it spreads into a rainbow in another direction of your choosing. So for instance, you could send the orb up, then shoot the rainbow to the side to hit someone on a ledge above you.
Passive: Every X hits (or X% chance on hit or something), your melee attacks will have an additional random effect (7 different options, one for each color - things like setting them on fire, healing Lunais, freezing the enemy, etc.)

But the one I'm leaning towards most right now is the Hard Light Orb (name tentative):

Melee: Conjure images of giant fists around your hands to punch enemies in front of you.
Magic: Create a wall of light in front of you. This blocks movement and bullet-type attacks, so you can hide behind it or trap enemies with it, as well as it serving as a platform you can stand on (unless this would prove to be too good for breaking progression/puzzles). If you hit it with a melee attack, it'll move forward until it hits an enemy (or wall), where it'll shatter for damage.
Passive: A shield is placed around your familiar, which blocks all bullet-type attacks.

One reason I like it because I imagine most of the orbs will be magically inclined, whereas this one would be more technological in theme (and that works in the setting of Timespinner). Mechanically, I'm particularly fond of the passive, allowing your familiars to serve as shields against certain types of enemies - especially in multiplayer, where it would also provide them a good amount of protection.

Oooh, these are fun! I'd say they're doable, but how powerful the passive and abilities are could make it something that only appears in the Extra Dungeon (so that the Orb doesn't break normal story/design balancing). Just something to keep in mind :D

Butterfly: All of these are great ideas! Since the Passive is something I was thinking of putting in anyway (Hello Flying Armor Soul / Risky's Pirate Hat!), then I might change the 'Butterfly' to something more thematically fitting (ex: a similar creature that exists in the setting. Probably something tiny, cute, and flying :D)

Rainbow: The Spell might be a little iffy, because it would probably be difficult to design so that it feels enjoyable- there was a point way back in Timespinner's development where Lunais could aim her shots with the Right Stick but it felt super distracting and not actually that useful. Sooo, it got cut. /shrug. I could see this Spell working if it was more automated by the game, kind of like a quick homing manuever (ex: Nearest enemies that are reachable by two connected straight lines get hit).

Hard Light: This is a really well rounded kit! It could be a nice later-game Orb (the platform bit makes it very powerful for puzzles).

All great ideas~

As a fan of butterflies (*coughs at her icon and easily half of her jewelry*), I also think this idea is great!

Heh, glad you like 'em. I'd have no particular problem with my orb being later-game; my only concern would be that if new game+ allowed you to carry over orbs but it (the hard light orb) had to be not be carried over to preserve standard progression (platforming bonus and all that), that would be pretty lame, so I'd probably go with something else or modify it somehow.

Of course, that's all theoretical and a fair way's off.
